What Carpe Diem Tours is
Carpe Diem Tours is a Rome walking-tour company that has grown into a seven-city brand: Rome, Florence, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona and Budapest. The core products are food tours in Trastevere, cooking classes, night walks and Colosseum tours in groups of 6 to 24 depending on the product. Its cancellation page names the owner as Global Experiences LTD; the about page talks about tree planting and awards but gives no founding year, and no page we read prints a registered office or company number. It is a live booking site, not a Maps-only listing, and takes bookings in euros.
For day trips it is a small player. One product is scheduled and priced: Ostia Antica Tour. The rest of the "Day Trips" category is a set of chauffeur-driven private days marked "upon request", plus chauffeur-driven tours of Rome itself.
What it sells from Rome
| Product | Format | Length | Price when checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ostia Antica Tour | Group, max 16, by train from Piramide | 3.5 h | from €69 |
| Tivoli Escape | Private chauffeur + guide, max 8 | 4 h (as listed) | On request |
| Naples & Pompeii | Private chauffeur | Not listed | On request |
| Sorrento & Positano | Private chauffeur | Not listed | On request |
| Orvieto, Florence, Siena, Assisi, Livorno, Tuscan vineyard | Private chauffeur | Not listed | On request |
| Rome day trip from Civitavecchia port | Private vehicle or small group on foot | Not listed | On request |
The Ostia tour includes the return train ticket, park entry and an English mother-tongue guide; you reach Piramide (Metro B) yourself, and the walk on site is about 2.5 hours, with the baths, the amphitheatre and the Mithraic temples on the route. It cancels free up to 24 hours before.
The chauffeur days carry review counts and star ratings on the site but no price, no vehicle type and no hours beyond a "Morning, Afternoon" label. We do not quote figures the company does not publish.

What to check before you pay for an on-request day
The Tivoli Escape page is the example to learn from. Its "What's included" list contains entrance tickets and a lunch; its "Excluded" list contains entrance tickets to Villa Adriana and Villa d'Este, and meals. Both cannot be true, and the four-hour duration does not fit two villas, a sit-down lunch and the drive. None of that means the trip is bad; it means the page was assembled loosely, and you should get the real terms in writing. For any private day quoted by email, from this company or any other, ask for:
- the vehicle and its licence category (an NCC car-with-driver plate, not a rental with a friend driving);
- the price per vehicle, the hours it covers, and the overtime rate;
- whether a licensed guide is included or only a driver who talks in the car;
- entry tickets, lunch and parking: in or out;
- the pickup point and time, and the cancellation terms, in the same email.
Pay on the site or by card against that written quote, not by cash deposit. If the answers are vague, the GetYourGuide private Tivoli day at €199 per vehicle publishes all of this up front.

How it compares with a platform booking or the train
For Ostia the comparison is direct. The GetYourGuide train tour costs €49 with a larger review base; Carpe Diem charges €69 for a similar half-day, also by train, with a cap of 16. Both leave you at Piramide for the ride back, so pair either with an afternoon at the catacombs or the Colosseum. Doing it yourself costs the Metromare fare plus the park ticket and no guide; our Ostia Antica page sets out that day hour by hour, and the site is easy to read without a guide if you have a map.
For the far-away days, the platform private products on our private day trips page publish per-vehicle prices and inclusions, which Carpe Diem does not. Use them as your benchmark when a quote arrives. For the Trastevere food tours the company also sells, see food tours after a day trip.
Verdict
Carpe Diem Tours is a credible city-tour operator with one honest day trip: Ostia by train, a little dearer than the platform equivalent but with the same format and a real group cap. Its chauffeur days are unpriced and, on at least one page, inconsistently described, so treat them as a request for a quote and hold the quote to the checklist above. If you want a fully specified private day out of Rome today, Through Eternity and LivTours publish prices; if you want the cheapest guided Ostia, GetYourGuide does. Prices checked regularly.
