What LivTours is
LivTours began as LivItaly Tours: its founder started guiding in Rome in 2004, set up the company in 2009 and was joined by a Swedish co-owner in 2012. It has since spread to Spain, France, England, Austria and Germany and counts more than 350 tours. The legal set-up is unusually well documented for this market: a US company (LivItaly Tours LLC, California) trading as LivTours, which operates in Italy through a licensed Rome travel agency at Via Domenico Millelire 23, with a Province of Rome authorisation number and agency liability insurance printed in the footer. That is more than most premium brands publish.
The format is the point. Every "semi-private" tour is guaranteed at six guests; the company says it started with that format and frames the cap as a sustainability choice (it is a member of GreenStep, a GSTC-accredited certifier). For a day trip that means one guide, one vehicle, your questions answered, and a price to match.

Prices are shown in euros on the site with a currency switch. The private figures are labelled "base price" rather than per person; the site does not say on the listing what that base covers, so run the booking calculator with your party size before comparing with the per-vehicle private tours on GetYourGuide. Ratings on the site are the company's own and we do not repeat them.
The Tivoli day includes the driver both ways, tickets and guided visits to both villas, and free time for lunch in Tivoli (lunch not included). The Pompeii and Naples day includes priority entry and a 2 h 30 walk in Pompeii, a pizza lunch on the Gulf and time in Naples' historic centre. Both list Piazza Venezia as the meeting point; the exact spot is on your voucher.

What premium buys you
At €439 for Tivoli, you are paying roughly seven times the GetYourGuide coach tour at €65, or about four times the GYG private Tivoli day at €199 per vehicle if you are travelling as a pair. The gap narrows for a group of four: LivTours €1,756 for four semi-private seats against a private car and guide you assemble yourself. What you get is a fixed cap of six, a guide who walks both villas, a car rather than a coach, and tickets handled. What you do not get is lunch, and there is no Ostia, Orvieto or Castelli day in semi-private form; those are private only.
For Pompeii the comparison is starker: the LivTours semi-private day at €529 sits against a €74.70 coach day that also includes Naples on GetYourGuide. The coach spends the same hours on the road; the difference is entirely in what happens inside the site and at lunch.

Booking terms worth knowing
Cancellation is the most flexible we have read among premium operators: cancel up to 24 hours before the start for a full refund or a 110% travel credit that never expires. Pick the non-refundable option at checkout and that flexibility disappears entirely. Entry tickets for a list of venues are never refundable even inside a refundable booking, and two items on that list touch day trips: Vesuvius tickets, and all train tickets including those on semi-private tours. So the Florence-by-train day and the Pompeii + Vesuvius private day carry a ticket cost you will lose if you cancel.
Semi-private availability is shown up to three hours before departure, the voucher is digital (you give your name and LVO number to the guide), children under three go free, and phone support runs 08:00–22:00 Rome time. Some bespoke products, such as the helicopter tour, show as "pending" until a supplier confirms.
How it compares with a platform booking or the train
If your group is two people, a GetYourGuide private Tivoli day per vehicle (€199) or a self-built train day (Roma Tiburtina to Tivoli on the regional line, then the local bus to Villa Adriana) both undercut LivTours by a wide margin; see our Tivoli page for the timings. If you are four to six and want a guide for the whole day, LivTours starts to make sense because the cap is guaranteed rather than "small group, up to 15". For Pompeii, the train-based tours at €129–155 on GetYourGuide include a guide and cost a quarter of the LivTours price; the trade-off is a larger group and a Frecciarossa timetable instead of a car at your door.
Verdict
LivTours is the operator to shortlist when the group size is the deciding factor and the budget is not. Its legal transparency, refund terms and the six-person guarantee are all verifiable on the site. Compare it with Walks of Italy if you can live with a group of 18, and with Through Eternity if you want private-only pricing for two. Prices checked regularly.
