Sightseeing Tours Italy review: a reseller with a generic name

A generic-named Rome agency whose site was unreachable when we checked and whose archived terms are stricter than any platform's. Prices checked regularly on the alternatives below.

Sightseeing Tours Italy is the kind of name that turns up in a Maps search for "Pompeii tour from Rome" and looks official. It is not: it is a small Rome-based agency selling day tours and multi-day packages, and when we checked, its own website did not load at all. This review sets out what is verifiable, what its archived terms say, and how to judge a seller like this before you pay. Price level, from the archived catalogue: above the GetYourGuide coach days for the same Pompeii trip.

What it actually is

The Google Maps listing reads "Sightseeing Tours Italy - Rome, Colosseum, Vatican City, Pompeii, Florence & Venice Tours", categorised as a tour agency, with an address at Via Venti Settembre 118 in Rome. That address is a serviced-office building, and the archived site itself adds "by appointment only". At the time of checking the listing showed a 4.4 rating from 22 reviews.

The domain sightseeingtoursitaly.com would not resolve when we tried it, so we read archived copies. They show an English-language catalogue site, "Quality Italy Tours at Great Prices", with day tours, short breaks and multi-day "overland" tours across Rome, the Vatican, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Florence, Tuscany, Pisa and Venice, and a footer VAT number that is nine digits long rather than the eleven of an Italian partita IVA. The archived terms and conditions state that "other accredited tour operators may be used on some tours". Nothing on the site mentions its own coaches, guides' licences or a tour-operator licence number.

Do not confuse it with two similar names. City Sightseeing is the red hop-on hop-off bus brand. "Sightseeing Experience" is the activity provider named on a GetYourGuide Pompeii and Naples day trip. Neither is this company.

What it sold from Rome and how booking worked

The archived Pompeii page listed:

Product (archived) Duration Archived price
Pompeii tour from Rome with pizza lunch 12 h €152
Pompeii tour from Rome, at your own pace (transport + ticket) 12 h €93
Private Pompeii tour from Rome with an Amalfi Coast stop 10 h €799
2-day Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri with hotel 2 days €563

These are historical figures from an archived copy, not live prices, and we quote them only to show the price level. Booking was through the site itself. For comparison, the live coach days on GetYourGuide, checked regularly, start at €56 for Pompeii with optional Vesuvius and around €69 for the transport-and-options shuttle.

The practical detail: the archived terms

The cancellation clause is the most important thing on the archived site. Cancelling or changing the date more than 7 days before departure costs 25% of the fare; inside 7 days it costs 50%; inside 72 hours, or failing to board, forfeits the full fare. Compare that with the 24-hour free-cancellation windows on most GetYourGuide day trips and on the direct sites of operators such as City Wonders: booking a €152 coach day with a 25% penalty from day one is a poor trade.

How to judge a Maps-only or site-down seller

  1. Find the company. An Italian seller must show a company name and an eleven-digit partita IVA. If the site is down and the listing gives only a phone number, you cannot check either.
  2. Ask who runs the coach. A reseller is not a problem if it tells you the operator's name in writing. Then you can find the same product, often cheaper, on the operator's site or on a platform, as our City Wonders and Enjoy Rome reviews show.
  3. Get the meeting point and time in writing before paying, and the cancellation terms in the same message.
  4. Pay by card, on a site or platform, never a cash or bank-transfer deposit. A card payment can be disputed; a deposit cannot.
  5. Prefer the operator or a platform when the reseller's terms are worse than theirs, which here they are.

Verdict

Not bookable as we write, and not attractive on its archived terms even when it was. If the site returns, apply the checklist above; in the meantime the same Pompeii, Florence and Venice days are on sale with named operators through the platforms, and the operators hub explains who actually runs them. For the Pompeii day itself, the coach flagship below is the like-for-like alternative.

Questions people ask

Is Sightseeing Tours Italy a tour operator or an agency?

Its Maps listing is categorised as a tour agency and its archived terms state that other accredited tour operators may be used on some tours. Treat it as a reseller unless it tells you otherwise in writing.

Is Sightseeing Tours Italy the same as City Sightseeing?

No. City Sightseeing runs the red hop-on hop-off buses and is a different company. Nor is it 'Sightseeing Experience', the provider named on some GetYourGuide Pompeii listings.

Why could you not open sightseeingtoursitaly.com?

When we checked, the domain did not resolve, so we read archived copies on the Wayback Machine instead. Try the live site yourself before relying on anything here.

What did its Pompeii day trip from Rome cost?

An archived copy of the site listed a 12-hour Pompeii tour from Rome with pizza lunch at €152, a transport-only version at €93 and a private version at €799. These are historical figures, not live prices.

What is its cancellation policy?

According to the archived terms: a 25% fee if you cancel more than 7 days before departure, 50% inside 7 days and the full fare inside 72 hours. Most platforms refund in full up to 24 hours before.

What should I check before paying a seller like this?

A working website with a company name and Italian VAT number, a written quote naming the coach operator, the meeting point, and the cancellation terms; and pay by card, never a cash deposit.
